The University of Sunderland is based on two main sites, either side of the River Wear, and is well equipped with modern learning and leisure facilities.
Sunderland is a great place to live, study and work – right at the heart of the buzzing North East of England. The Sunderland Empire Theatre attracts amazing West End Shows to the City. Other landmarks include the impressive Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens and the National Glass Centre. The regions only 50 metre Swimming pool is due to open in 2008, alongside Sunderland Football Club’s “Stadium of Light”.
Sport at the University is also going through exciting times with new facilities planned for the future. The University currently has its own swimming pool, sports hall and fitness facilities, and partnership arrangements allow all students access to the City’s wide range of sports facilities, including Adventure Sunderland for Watersports, Silksworth Sports Complex for Skiing and outdoor sports and the Football Club’s Academy of Light for Soccer, to name just a few.
Sport at the University is coordinated by “ University Sport Sunderland” which brings together, and promotes all the strands of the University’s sporting offer, including academic courses, student sports clubs/activities, elite athlete programme, community sport programmes etc.
