Newcastle University is one of the most popular in the UK experiencing a 40% increase in applications since 2003.  The University prides itself on the quality of its teaching in over 200 undergraduate degree programmes.  The quality of this teaching has been endorsed by the Quality Assurance Agency, employers and the students themselves in the 2005 National Student Survey.

The University operates a performance sports programme that aims to maximise the performance of Newcastle University representative teams.  Key sports include rowing, rugby, netball, hockey and fencing. The University was 14th in the British Universities’ Sports Association (BUSA) rankings in 2005/6.

The Athletic Union supports over 50 Sports Clubs from Aikido to Windsurfing.  All abilities are welcome with each club run by students for students.
