News | SUNEE GETS TOP AWARD

Sport Universities North East England (SUNEE) received the Power of Sport Award at the prestigious BBC North East and Cumbria Sport Awards.

This is given to the initiative that has made a real difference to local communities.

Neil Hurren, Regional Universities Sports Co-ordinator and Graham Carter, a participant of the project, accepted the award at the recently completed CitySpace at Sunderland University on Sunday 29th November.

Neil Hurren said “We are absolutely delighted to pick up this award. It is testament to the hard work of everyone involved – most importantly those whose lives we have helped get back on track.

Through sport we can bring people together, help improve lifestyles and also   provide access to training and qualifications. We firmly believe that being involved and participating in sport and physical activity can bring about many positives.

By taking part in the project, not only can it help boost self-esteem, confidence and camaraderie, it can also provide key skills which can assist in the route to employment.

The award was sponsored by Sport England
